Economic Impacts

CANADA’S ECONOMY IS BUILT ON NATURAL RESOURCES

Canada’s natural gas and oil industry has positive economic impacts in nearly every province and territory. From BC to Newfoundland and Labrador the industry is creating jobs and opportunities for Canadians of every background.

The natural gas and oil industry is one of our country’s largest job-creators. It is the largest employer of Indigenous peoples in the country. And the industry is a significant purchaser of Ontario’s many manufactured products.

Mining, natural gas and oil extraction are among the most productive jobs in Canada’s economy – this means these jobs pay the bills for the services we hold dear as Canadians, like public healthcare.

The policies being pushed by opponents of Canada’s natural gas and oil industry are challenging the sector’s ability to create these positive economic impacts. These policies are designed to make the production of energy more expensive for companies and the consumption of energy more costly for Canadians.
